Suspended high above the bustle of Cockle Bay Wharf, Coast soaks up the harbour breeze and gazes out across the expanse of blue that is Darling Harbour. This light-filled beach-house captures the panorama within slanted sheets of glass and invites the afternoon sun in to light up the dining room. Nestled on the Roof Terrace of Cockle Bay Wharf, Coast’s wide timber deck offers a bird’s eye view of the boats gliding on by. Inside, the expansive dining room accommodates a swarm of hungry guests, whose appetites get a real work-out from the open kitchen’s tempting aromas.
Head chef Jonathon Barthelmess focuses on fresh produce and simple culinary techniques to craft a mouth-watering menu of Italian-inspired fare. Australian and imported ingredients mingle in the pan to achieve utmost quality on the plate. Take a seat on the deck and tuck into a bucket of fresh oysters to complement a crisp white and watch as the sun puts itself to bed. Raw kingfish with balsamic and capers is a delicious start to the meal, equal parts looks and taste, with oak-smoked salt bringing a unique flavour to the tastebuds. Hand-made papardelle, stracci and gnocci are must-tries, or pay homage to the ocean’s offerings with a main of seared tuna with orange, honeyed almonds and shaved fennel. You’re sure to find the perfect liquid partner from the accessible and enticing 300-strong wine list crafted by sommelier Brendon February. Panna cotta with orange and caramel delivers a fantastic combination of flavours for a very sweet ending indeed.

DETAILS
Coast is one of Sydney's most popular restaurants and is Darling Harbour’s quality alternative. Its stunning location among the gardens of the Roof Terrace, Cockle Bay Wharf, sets the scene for memorable Sydney dining.
The dining room inspired by Australian coastal living, the expansive outdoor terrace balcony and the unique private dining room all enjoy panoramic views over Darling Harbour. The terrace provides an exceptional Sydney outdoor setting to enjoy the Italian-inspired menu and 400-strong wine list.
Relaxed and sophisticated, the design draws its inspiration from coastal and beach-house elements. Boardwalks, bleached-out timbers, vivid accent coastal colours and graphics with Verner Panton op-art fabrics provide drama and interest. The illuminated coastline sculpture is suspended from the ceiling and winds through the room to create warmth and subtle changes to lighting. The overall effect is inviting and exciting, especially at night when the lights of the coastline interplay with the lights of Darling Harbour.
The ambience that Coast creates through its signature design and professional and informed service is inspired from Coastal relaxed elements, while still supporting the international restaurant status it enjoys. The atmosphere is one of enduring quality - a unique, but relaxed dining experience.

WINE LIST
Sommelier Rodney Setter has assembled a wine list to complement the distinctive Italian flavours, basing selection on a wine’s archetypal expression and great food-matching qualities. With over 400 wines, the aim is to present the best of the new breed of regional and varietal styles, as well as established favourites from Australia and abroad.
Meticulously selected from the abundance of good quality Australian and Italian wines available, the wine list features the best of Australian and Italian boutique wineries, with selections from some of the best vintages, as well as some hard-to-get current releases. The wine team at Coast Restaurant have developed a passion for Italian and Spanish varietals, and are also discovering the new world wines from South America and Greece, among others, which also feature on the ever-evolving wine list.
