DETAILS
Balmy summer nights are perfect for enjoying the exotic atmosphere of Aki’s. Expect the unexpected. First-class modern Indian food, Aki’s features delicate light dishes, fresh with aromatic spices that blend comfortably with the more traditional favourites on the menu devised by Head Chef and Owner Kumar Mahadevan.
Kumar has raised the bar on Indian food in Australia with his contemporary take on the traditional menus of Indian restaurants. The old favourites are still there and better than ever, but there are a number of alternative dishes on offer that are light and fresh yet still bursting with Indian spices and flavour. Aki’s is the younger sibling to the well-established sister restaurant Abhi’s in North Strathfield.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
The menu is a refreshing and modern interpretation of traditional Indian food and a reflection of all the regions of the country. This means that the menu has much more than the traditional Chicken Tikka and Lamb Korma. The food stays true to the culinary roots of India, focussing on southern Indian cooking with flavours that are light and fresh, ideal for Sydney diners. Head Chef and Owner Kumar Mahadevan has created a number of elegantly ethnic dishes using only the freshest ingredients, as well as adding an Australian spin on old favourites to ensure all palates are pleased. His Namkeen Squid is an Indian inspired salt and pepper squid with tamarind and ginger dipping sauce. The Crab Podimas with Iddiappam consists of shelled blue swimmer crab tossed with black mustard seeds, served with traditional rice hoppers and a coconut broth this dish tops the favourites list of the critics. The Patrani Machhi is an exquisite fillet of wild barramundi wrapped in banana leaves and steamed with fresh mint, coriander, ginger and lime. Meanwhile the Palak Patta Chaat consisting of spinach leaves in a crispy lentil batter topped with yoghurt, chilli and mint sauces resembles a
tasteful Indian version of nachos.
UPSTAIRS PRIVATE ROOM AND LOUNGE
Aki’s also features a sophisticated lounge bar upstairs and the cocktail menu has a signature selection including the Indian mule, Delhi darbar, Old Raj and Tamarindia.
Personal Statement
“It’s not often that you get a good Indian restaurant with a view. Or a swank bar. Or a nice fitout. But at Aki’s you get this and more, including a great beer list plus a menu
that explores more than just the northern Indian clichés”
